John Söderlund
My process

My building endeavours began eight years ago when a mountain biking accident led me to build a lap steel guitar to get around the damage done to my left wrist by the accident. As a colleague once quipped, there are very few people who manage to build only one guitar. Since that time, I have been building custom acoustic and electric guitars that perpetually push design, sonic and aesthetic boundaries in an obsessive quest for the ultimate guitar.

Buying a Söderlund guitar

Most Söderlund Guitars are custom-designed and made to optimally fulfill the creative vision of
the commissioning musician. The process of ordering such an instrument is a collaborative process
between you and myself, during which we will co-design the optimal combination of woods, components,
geometric and ergonomic specifications and tonality to ensure that the process is as rich and satisfying
for you as is the making of the guitar for me.
I prefer to base this process on one of my standard
design models but almost all of the crucial measurements, such as scale length, string spacing, and items
like the electronics, woods and aesthetics, are yours for the choosing. To begin our joint creative
process of putting together a custom build, please get in touch with me and
let me know what you are after.
My present wait list will mean your guitar will likely be completed
within 8 months after our final agreed design. I require payment of a 50%, non-refundable deposit before
I begin the build.
